Or, head east to enjoy some of our local attractions. Big Horn Canyon Recreational Area has something for everyone. Enjoy Horseshoe Bend Marina for swimming, paddle boarding, and camping, or head down the road a little further to enjoy Devil’s Canyon Overlook. The views are breathtaking! Local businesses offer canyon boat and kayaking tours, or take your own boat out for a day of fun on the water. The Horseshoe Bend Marina is only 15 miles from Lovell, and to unload your boat at Barry’s Landing is only 27 miles. On the way, you’ll travel through the Pryor Mountain Wild Horse Range. Oftentimes, you’ll see the horses right along the highway along with big horn sheep for which much of this area is named. The history buff in your group will be anxious to explore the many historical ranches along this drive including, L Slash Heart Ranch, Mason-Lovell Ranch, Cedarvale Ranch, and Ewing-Snell Ranch.

Still further east, is the mighty Big Horn Mountain Range. The Big Horns offer entertainment for hikers, backpackers, fly fisherman, hunters, horseback riders, and ATV or snowmobile enthusiasts. There are two ski areas nearby, Meadowlark Resort, and Antelope Butte Ski Area. If it is history and culture you seek, check out the Medicine Wheel National Historic Landmark. Just 33 miles east of Lovell, and at 10,000 feet, this stone structure is sure to captivate all who visit. The stones are arranged in a wheel with 28 spokes. This sacred place was used to predict astronomical events, and is still used in Native American ceremonies today. Another must see attraction in the Big Horn Mountains is Shell Falls. The 60 mile drive is well worth it to observe the powerful waterfall and rushing rapids that carved out Shell Canyon.
